Well it was 5 am and I knew I had to get out of the bed. I didn't want to but the lure of the M1 was too strong. I soon found myself plodding up North with about 8 tonnes of Pickled food on board.
One thing about food delivery's . LONG !! that's it.You park outside in a line of other trucks , you might be booked in at 7 am, like I was this morning but if 5 trucks are in front of you, then you wait. Simple.
I got to my first one at 6.50 am , I joined the queue and waited. I was tipped around 7.30 and went back to the truck to wait for the paperwork.
Again I waited, and waited , and waited.
I went inside to see what the holdup was and found him going around the warehouse with the pallet putting the items on the shelves while checking them off on my paperwork. I was finally finished by 8.30. 1 down, 12 to go.
I made my way over to Wakefield to find the 2nd drop. It was a hard place to find and I very nearly shaved a few feet off the side of my truck!!! a tiny bridge with a very nasty , and even lower Railway tunnel behind it. Out of nowhere !!!! I made a hasty retreat and found the place eventually. 4 pallets off at this one.
They were actually very fast for a change. I only waited a few minutes and they completed the paperwork really fast too.
Most food company's take your pallet and then they have to check off every item so it does take time, but some of the bigger company's let it take a lot more time than others.
I went from Wakefield over to Leeds with a load of mixed pallets, one for macro.
I had 4 for a storage company in Leeds and when I got to them I had to attract their attention by sounding the horn because there was nobody around.
I spotted someone walking outside having a fag and it was the forklift driver, "didn't know we had a delivery booked Drive" he said. "Sorry". Didn't take long after that.
Then time stood still. I went into Macro at 11.20 am and I came out 1 pallet lighter at 2 pm , yes it took over two hours to unload, and count the contents of 1 pallet.Good job I didn't have to deliver all my remaining pallets to them or I'd still be there.
This is the welcoming window

I rang the boss because I was booked into the Sheffield Macro for 2pm . I was late but they seemed to be running the same first come , first served system so i just joined another queue.
Not a lot went on for a while, until nearly 5 pm actually. I was the last lorry in the car park and they had taken the stuff off but were no where to be seen.
The forkie turned up and said I had some beetroot missing !!! Drama at last!
I had to fill a form out and admit they were missing.
Then I could go.
I headed down the motorway at 5.30 pm.
