Two Day Catch Up

The first part of today is taken up on the M1 to leeds and then finding the smallest street in Leeds (near Gipton) and then finding someone put a house at the bottom of it and then they actually ordered something for it and wondered why it was difficult to deliver, especially when its 1 tonne of wood floor.
Overhanging trees! parked cars! Pedestrians!
Someone on here asked what we loved about the job and why we never had anything good to say
Well its day like this we never have anything good to say. Add in crappy delivery address, wrong (or half) phone numbers and shall we say "Awkward " customers , and you got a normal working day.
Ill write a full day when I get back

I was Last here on Wednesday to post and had a very very long day in the Sprinter.
I couldn't post on Thursday because I was shattered and then on Friday again I was whipped so I had a few days off.

I was loaded for Leeds when I got to the yard and was instructed to check the load . I always check the load.
I jumped up and strapped down the wood flooring for A customer in Leeds.
It was a long drive up to Leeds and I wanted to be up before the rush hour as my load needed to be in the centre.
3 hours it took to get to the address and when I found it it was nightmare road. The main road was the width of the truck, and the actual road I needed was off this road with parked cars everywhere. I saw the house I needed right at the bottom off this winding path , low trees and pot holes and a really high camber all made it a lot harder.

I had to leave the truck on the so called main road and use the tail-lift to off load the flooring and drag the pallet truck down this winding path.
I rang the doorbell and the lady who answered expected me to bring it in and drop it where she wanted. I had a truck taking up the whole road at 9 am in the morning , traffic every where. I dropped the pallet after she had signed and she wasn't happy when I buggered off leaving her alone with a ton of wood on her drive. I will and often have helped when the customer is OK with you, and starts helping or obviously cant help due to age or being very slight but these ones that just point and show real indignation when you explain its their delivery and their problem how to get it in to the upstairs bedroom on the third floor, or into the basement.
My other drops included a brick yard in Selby, an Engineering company in Doncaster and then a few drops in Sheffield including a rooftop delivery in a shopping centre called "Crystal Peaks"

The whole place was like being in the Twilight Zone , Nobody I asked had ever heard of the address I was looking for.
it was the only unit without a number on it. I drove around on the roof of this crap looking shopping centre and I couldn't find 21 anywhere, I asked a few of the what can only be described as oiks in hi viz jackets and they grunted they didn't know as they filled a large compactor.
I went back to the security gate and asked them where was unit 21.
now bearing in mind I had already told her where I was delivering to when I was allowed through the barrier, she said " oh you want to pull over at the lift and then its down stairs and on your right through the doors " HELP !!! . Is it that difficult for a few people who have arranged a delivery and the purchase of goods to help the poor sod delivering them out a little bit.
I had to look the business up and then get their phone number and call them to say I had a delivery on the roof.
The guy was great , he came straight up and we caged the pallet and again.
Off I went.
Chesterfield next and a really nice lady that offered me tea, and in spite of being slightly smaller than Kylie continued to drag packs off wood into her house with me, even though I said I'd do it.
Her son was amazed with the truck especially the tailgate. It was a nice change to be appreciated.

Friday was an early start and pretty boring as usual.
Mansfield to start three drops and a collection , nothing to report really.
Evey one was friendly I was collecting from Nottingham and that went as smooth as ever, dropping the tailift onto the tiny collection bay at Pretty Polly is a tiny bit tricky but I am used to it now.
I took the collection back to Leicester and then kicked my heals in the yard for the rest of the day
until the afternoon stuff started coming in.
The way things are at the minute all our customers have downsized and although we still go to all of them, the amount of pallets we usually take out is less.
This Friday though I was full and having to juggle them around to get everything on.
I don't know if this means anything but we seemed a bit busier and even had a few jobs subbed out.
I have work on Monday a full load down to Northampton so Ill be back withthe day to day service I hope, sleep reliant of course.
When the days are slow even the pictures are crap so I didnt post any sorry.
